Keyword Analysis Report
Keywords are published for each page in an invisible (to your visitors) section called the "keywords metatag". Properly done, the keyword list includes a subset of the words that appear in the page, reduced to the significant ones you want search engines (and ultimately, people) to pay attention to. Keywords are not required, but they help to correctly sort and rank your site and pages. They help visitors find your site by correlating your pages to the words they enter into search engines.
Contrary to what you might hear or read, there is no real science or reliable way to game the system, and attempting to do so can actually get you banned from a listing. Each search and listing engine, likewise, has it's own way of doing things. So what might work well for one may do nothing for you with another. There are, however, some generally accepted rules for proper keyword use.
In general, you should:
- Separate keywords & phrases with commas.
- Use only keywords that make logical sense in the context of the page.
- Limit the list to under 1,000 characters.
- Not use keywords that do not actually appear in your page.
- Not repeat keywords more than 3 times.
- Not repeat keywords over and over in other metatags, alt tags, or page text.
As you might imagine, keyword definition is normally a tedious task, and requires not only that you know how to create the list, but how to code the tag as well. The 3ngine makes this job drop dead easy.
Use the Keyword Analysis Report to evaluate your pages and the keywords that you have associated with them. The report examines your pages in light of the rules above and points out discrepancies.
Click on the link to the Keyword Helper for each Page in your report to select and enter keywords for that page. You will see a preview of your page in the helper, along with an extraction of the unique words in the page that you can simply click to add. You can also type directly into the keywords entry box. Individual keywords and logical groupings (phrases) should be separated by commas.
Fill the Page Description box with a brief synopsis of your page. This text is displayed for your page in the search results of engines that support this field.
* Run this report periodically to keep your keywords in sync with your page contents.
