New and Old Volunteers Join Forces as HDF Celebrates 20 Years

For the last 20 years, the American-Pakistan Community has stepped up and shown their support for the Human Development Foundation (HDF) through donations, volunteer efforts, and advocacy outreach. On the 20th Anniversary of HDF, five members of HDF’s Board of Directors are being welcomed into the fold.

Tariq Malik is an investor in global financial markets and is currently Managing Partner with Ammana Investments in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Mr. Malik is a long-time supporter of HDF and a past Board Member. Today, he brings his years of experience in strategic planning, marketing, and management to the organization.

Dr. Mahmood Alam is a Cardiologist in Woodbridge, New Jersey and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area. A graduate of Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, Dr. Alam has been in practice for over 20 years in Pakistan and the United States. Dr. Alam has a history of involvement with Social Issues relating to Pakistan; in addition to being a past member of HDF’s Board of Trustees, he was President of the Association of Pakistani-descent Physicians of North America (APPNA) in 2008 and has served APPNA in various leadership positions since 1995.

Dr. Saeed Bajwa, a neurosurgeon in Johnson City, New York, has also been in practice for over 20 years. A long-time supporter of the people of Pakistan, Dr. Bajwa was one of the first responders to the 2005 earthquake in Kashmir. He was also presented the Sitara-E-Imtiaz, the highest civilian award in Pakistan, in 2007 by President Musharraf. Dr. Bajwa is another long-time supporter of HDF; bringing his speaking talents to the Ten Million Children Initiative Event at the HDF New York Event in 2010.

Shahzad Kazi is Chief Risk Officer at Mosaic in Chicago. His executive and management of over 25 years has already been a wonderful asset to the HDF Board of Directors. Mr. Kazi is the current General Secretary with APPNA Alliance and brings a fresh perspective to both organizations.

Dr. Shahid Choudhary, a neurologist at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, has been practicing Neurology for over 30 years.

“We are excited to begin this year at HDF with the addition of each of these men. HDF is only as strong as those who support us. Through the efforts of all our volunteers and donors, we have made a difference over the last 20 years. I am confident, with the addition of these newest Board Members, we’ll continue that influence for many years to come” says Dr. Atiya Khan, HDF Board of Directors Chairperson.
