Ms. Cecilia Garzon, Head of Nutrition, World Food Programme

HDF and its partners, Ministry of Planning, Development & Reform and SUN-CSA Pakistan have launched the mass awareness campaign, Umeed Say Aagay – Moving Past Hope, at the provincial level. The event in Lahore was held on August 7th at the Auditorium of Planning and Development Department and was attended by representatives from international donor agencies, civil society organizations, academia, Punjab government, and the media.

This event focused on taking action to save over 400,000 lives of mothers and children. All decision makers agreed to advocate for and work together on a variety of measures including policy making for the introduction of low-cost high nutrition organic foods, widespread distribution of “Pakistan Dietary Guidelines”, an extension of maternity leave up to six months and ensuring suitable development budgets for mother and child wellness programs.

Key speakers discussing mother and child wellness included: Mr. Saleem Masih, Chief Health/Nutrition & Population, Mr. Aslam Shaheen, Chief Nutrition/SUN Focal Person, Pakistan and Ms. Cecilia Garzon, Head of Nutrition, World Food Programme.
