What Can Be Expected During Underwriting?

An insurance carrier has to collect and analyze your personal information before it can determine if you can qualify for insurance and what premium it will offer if you do. Information will include, but is not limited to
  • Personal medical history
  • Tobacco use
  • Driving record
  • Alcohol / drug use
  • Avocations / Occupation
  • Criminal history
  • Immediate family’s medical history
For most life insurance policies, you are required to undergo a physical examination by the insurance company’s representative which will include blood and urine samples. Most exams are done at a time and place of your convenience. You may also have to release your personal medical records to the insurance company. For your privacy, these records will only be used for the underwriting of your application for insurance.
